How a Foundation Apprenticeship works

  1. Choose the apprenticeship as part of your subject choices in S4 or S5
  2. Spend time with a learning provider, e.g. Forth Valley College
  3. Work on industry projects supported by experienced colleagues in the workplace
  4. Get assessed on the work you do to achieve the qualification. This qualification is at SCQF level 6 (Higher equivalency)
  5. Successfully finish the apprenticeship so you earn the qualification and essential skills employers want

There are 12 Foundation Apprenticeships offered by Forth Valley College and Skills Development Scotland. Some are offered as a 2 year option meaning you must start this course in Fifth Year. Some are 1 year courses, so you can specialise in an area when you are in Sixth Year. You need to discuss how practical a one year Foundation Apprenticeship is in Fifth Year for you as it will involve much time out in placement.

Please download or open the PDF link below to find out more about each of the Foundation Apprenticeships that are offered in St. Mungo’s.
